The Breteau Foundation started in South Africa with just two schools in 2014. Since then, we have scaled and adapted our programmes within the country and today, we are close to supporting over 50,000 children and providing them with access to quality education.
We partner with primary schools, NGOs and government to make far reaching impact in the most remote townships across 5 provinces. Our programmes aim to make teaching and the learning process equitable, enjoyable, engaging and innovative, especially where classrooms are overcrowded and where there is insufficient infrastructure to support educational outcomes.

Our Reach

Partnership with WCED (Western Cape Education Department)

The Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) and The Breteau Foundation are partnering on an e-Learning initiative through the Grade R – 3 100 Schools Project. This collaboration will reach 103 primary schools and 40,000 students, enhancing teaching and learning in a range of subjects.
With WCED’s hardware and accessories, the Breteau Foundation is curating and selecting 35 educational apps aligned to the national curriculum and delivering teacher training to promote the successful integration of tablets into schools and enhance e-Learning capabilities. We have also developed teacher resource packs comprising of literacy, numeracy, home language, eBooks and critical thinking.
